Effects of the gas content on the Gamma-ray emission from the Galactic bulge

چکیده
We use the recent model for the distribution of interstellar gas in the Galactic bulge developed by Ferrière et al. (2007) [1] together with the Galprop numerical code to compute the Galactic diffuse gamma-ray emission due to cosmic rays. We then compare our computed Galactic diffuse gamma-ray sky with the previous results obtained with Galprop. Based on the differences between the models of gas of [1] and that commonly employed in Galprop, we investigate what observational constraints GLAST/LAT could provide by simulating one year of GLAST/LAT sky survey.

Diffuse gamma-ray emission from the Galactic center - a multiple energy injection model
We suggest that the energy source of the observed diffuse gamma-ray emission from the direction of the Galactic center is the Galactic black hole Sgr A*, which becomes active when a star is captured at a rate of ∼ 10−5 yr−1. Subsequently the star is tidally disrupted and its matter is accreted into the black hole. During the active phase relativistic protons with a characteristic energy ∼ 6 × 1...

The bulge of our Galaxy is illuminated by the 0.511 MeV gamma-ray line flux from annihilations of nonrelativistic positrons. The emission is strongly concentrated at the Galactic Center (GC), in contrast to gamma-ray maps tracing nucleosynthesis (e.g., the 1.809 MeV line from decaying Al) or cosmic ray processes (e.g., the 1–30 MeV continuum), which reveal a bright disk with a much less promine...
متن کاملGRBs and the 511 keV emission of the Galactic bulge
We consider the phenomenology of the 511 keV emission in the Galactic bulge, as recently observed by INTEGRAL, and propose a model is which the positrons are produced by gamma-ray bursts (GRB) associated with mini starbursts in the central molecular zone (CMZ). We show that the positrons can easily diffuse across the bulge on timescales of ∼ 10 7 yr, and that their injection rate by GRBs is com...

A more detailed analysis is made of the energy spectrum of the diffuse component of extragalactic gamma rays over the range of 0.3- 10 GeV, obtained fromthe EGRET instrument at the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory. The derived excess energy spectrum of high galactic latitude, b > 60°, using intercept method shows that it is correlated with Virgo cluster (over lsr) and average Virgo intensity i...
متن کاملGamma rays from the Galactic bulge and large extra dimensions.
An intriguing feature of extra dimensions is the possible production of Kaluza-Klein gravitons by nucleon-nucleon bremsstrahlung, in the course of core collapse of massive stars, with gravitons then being trapped around the newly born neutron stars and decaying into two gamma rays, making neutron stars gamma-ray sources. We strengthen the limits on the radius of compactification of extra dimens...
